Famous Hackers



In this post,we will have a brief synopsis of some of famous hackers and how they became famous.Some of them were  victim of circumstances.Some of them did that to cracks the government secret service agencies

Jonathan James

Jonathan James was an American Hacker, famous as the first juvenile sent to prison for cyber crime  in United States. 1999, James committed a series of intrusions into various systems, including those of BellSouth and the Miami-Dade school system.What brought him to the attention of federal authorities, however, was his intrusion into the computers of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, a division of the United States Department of Defense, the primary function of which is to analyze potential threats to the United States of America, both at home and abroad. James later admitted to authorities that he had installed an unauthorized backdoor in a computer server in Dulles, Virginia, which he used to install a sniffer that allowed him to intercept over three thousand messages passing to and from DTRA employees, along with numerous usernames and passwords of other DTRA employees, including at least 10 on official military computers.

He committed suicide in 2008 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ian Murphy

Ian Murphy, also known as Captain Zap, at one point of time was having school  student steal computer equipment for him,Ian self claims to have been “the first hacker ever convicted of a crime”.

Ians’s career as a master hacker was fabricated in 1986 after he and his employed wife decide to form some type of business.

He has a long history of internet frauds.One of his favourite games is to forge Email header and send out third party threat letters.

Eighteen months earlier, Ian Murphy (a.k.a. “Captain Zap”) along with three cohorts, hacked into AT&T’s computers and changed their internal clocks. People suddenly received late-night discounts in the afternoon, while others who waited until midnight to use the phone were greeted with hefty bills. For his part in the crime, Murphy was greeted with 1,000 hours of community service and 2 1/2 years probation (considerably less than what fellow hackers would receive today). He also became the inspiration for the movie Sneakers.

Kevin Mitnick

Kevin Mitnick is a computer security  consultant and  author, who infiltrates his clients company to expose their security strengths weakness,and potential loopholes.

He is the first hacker to have the face immortailzed on an FBI “Most Wanted” poster.He was formerly the most wanted computer criminal in the history of United States.

From the 1970s up until his last arrest in 1995,he skilfully bypassed corporate security safeguards, and his way into some of the most well-guarded system such as Sun Microsystem, Digital Equipment Corporation,Motorola,Netcom and Nokia.

Mark Abene

Mark Abene, known around the world by his pseudonym Phiber Optik, is an information security expert and enterpreneur. He was high profile hacker in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was one of the first hackers to openly debate and defend  the positive merits of ethical hacking as a baneficial tool to industry.

His expertise spread across penetration studies, on-site security assessment,secure code review,security policy review and generation,system and network architecture,system administration and network management,among many others.His clients includes American Express, UBS,First USA. Ernst & Young,KPMG and others.

Johan Helsinguis

Johan Helsingiuis,better known as Julf, came into the limelight in the 1980 when he started operating the world most popular anonymous remailer, called penet.fi

Johan was also responsible for product development for the first Pan-European internet service provider, Eunet International.

He is at present, a member of the board of Technologia Incognita, a hacker-space association in Amsterdam,and supports the communication companies worldwide with his cyber knowledge

Linus Torvalds

Linus Torvalds is known as one of the best hackers of all time.He rose to fame by creating Linux,the very popular Unix-based operating system. Linux is open source and thousand developers have contributed to its Kernal. However ,Torvalds remains the ultimate authority on what new code is incorporate into the standard Linux Kernal.  As of 2006, approximately two percent of Linux kernal was written by Torvalds himself

He just aspires to be simple and have fun by making the world best operating system. Robert Morris

Robert Morris, known as the creator of the morris worm to be unleashed on the internet.The worm had capablity to slow down computers  and make them   no longer usable.As a  result of this , he was sentenced to three years years probation, 400 hours of community services and also had to pay a penalty amount of $10,500.

Morris is currently working as a tenured professor at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Gary McKinnon

Gary mckinnon

Gary McKinnon is a renowed system administrator and hacker. He was famously accused of the  “biggest military computer hack of all time”. He had successfully hacked the network of Army, Air Force,Navy and NASA system of United States Government.

IN his statement to the media, he has often  mentioned that the motivation was only to find the evidence of UFO’s antigravity technology, and the supperession of “free energy” that could potentially be used to the public.
